Why Paper Cranes for Peace?
Networking shows that every little bit helps, that every effort made for a more peaceful world helps to achieve that goal - however small that effort may seem at the time. It also demonstrates that working together helps every individual to achieve so much more: ‘Many hands make peace work’!
We have worked together to fold A Million Cranes for Peace for the Year 2000 !
This shows how huge goals can be achieved by
people connecting or combining their efforts.
Beyond the year 2000 we will continue to:
Fold A Thousand Cranes
If you plan to fold a thousand cranes please
register with the Network (see below).
When your cranes are finished, let us know how many you folded and where
they ended up. Participants will be listed on this site and
their contributions acknowledged.
Fold a crane for Peace Challenge
2001
If you think a thousand cranes is too much for you to consider, you
can also be part of Peace Challenge 2001 - which aims to collect by
the end of the year 2001 at least one paper crane inscribed with a
message for peace from each of:
Participants will be listed on this site and their contributions acknowledged.
Towards the end of the year 2001, the collected cranes will be distributed to peace parks and gardens around the world and to key world leaders as a demonstration of how widespread are our wishes for peace on Earth.
Please help by spreading the word about this project, so that we can encourage more people to participate.

Please visit our galleries of Ideas and Inspirations and let us know of other
experiences we could share, and our pages of Peace Links and Resources and let us know of other
resources which you find useful.
Any individual, family group, school group, community group, organisation or business is welcome to participate, by folding either a thousand cranes or at least one crane as part of Peace Challenge 2001.
A particular emphasis is placed on the participation of schools because of the possibilities offered by learning about peace, non-violence and tolerance in a range of activities across the curriculum and because of the opportunities to link with, and engage, whole school communities in such activities.
Much the same can be true for other organisations such as Cubs/Scouts/Guides, church groups, youth groups, service clubs, libraries and cultural organisations.
Participating organisations are listed on our
page of Network Participants and progress reports
are posted on our News Update pages.
For those just starting out, ‘membership’ of
the Thousand Cranes Peace Network helps to provide encouragement, and links
to other people and resources.
For those already folding cranes, it is a way
of being part of something bigger than your own efforts - a network of people
across the world who share the goal of working towards peace and non-violence
by folding paper cranes.
Please register your interest in being part of the Network through the contacts shown below. Please help us by including:

We will be seeking sponsorship to assist with
transport costs and other arrangements.

should expect to meet their own costs.
